mymanian considered by prepositions
The notes related to the spy were cryptic, specific, highly detailed and of little use. They were compiled by an modernist poet employed by the agency because of his proximity to the spy. The poet's fungible logic informed his decision to work with us. His reports on human activity were well regarded in small circles of the intellectual elite and, currently, the regard was met with with little compensation. Playing for another team meant a bump in salary; people don't sniff at money anymore, not like they used to.
In excerpt:
along side the car
within arm's reach
from the lowered window
upon the palm
within a warm pocket
in the safehouse
in the basement
under amber light
in a chemical bath
beside himself
after the appointed time
before the card catalog
behind a notation, prearranged
beneath a stitch of tape
within a single frame
The analysts have concluded that the poet sees Mymanian as a pawn. The choice to schew verbs shows that the author does not see Mymanian as a man of action so much as a man acted upon. The initial preposition of each line, and the choice to have each line stop end a clause creates a near claustrophobic cadence that reflects the author's perception that time and place rule our activity in a mechanical and measured manner.
