As you may have noticed, there are now advertisements on the detail pages of the various sections of the site. I have agreed, nay, welcomed, invited Google to place ads on this site. And this has changed the way I have been thinking about the purpose of the space.
Initially, personalk.com was to be a place where the random and intended excretions of my mind, not focused elsewhere, could reside for public display. Vain, I suppose, but too late to stop that train. There were no constraints or direction for the choices, only paradigms for ordering the content ( searches, writings, projects).
Then I invited google to step in.
The program is ingenius. I create content and place it on the site. You come to the site to read it. With the Google ads, Google, when you load the page, reads the content and serves up ads that relate to the content I have placed on the page. But that is where the experience changes. for me.
Previously I could put anything on the site without concern. Maybe a few people would read it, perhaps even a few people who were not personally begged (by me) to look at it would stumble upon the page, register amusement or disgust and move on.
Now I find myself scheming. What content can I put on the site that will generate the ads that will be most appealing to my target demographic. What pieces can I put up that will attract search driven traffic to the site, and consequently ad clicks and revenue. How can I work the system. See, now there's a system, and I have to work it.
Should I start uploading reviews of recent films and musical releases? Should I make a positive pitch for the recreational use of Cialis? Should I invent a wicked, but entertaining tale of Vicodin addiction? Money money money. Content is King in a nation of hungry eyeballs.
Is this true to my original vision for the site? Cry me a river, hippy. Vision is for people too tightly wound to know a business opportunity when they see it.
So here it is, the new and commercialized personalk.com. Not that anyone cares. Enjoy the content. Sign up for my e-mail updates. If your company is interested in advertising on my frequent and widely read e-mail broadcasts, please contact me.
